North Korea

So in rethinking DT's administration's "policy" on NK I think it's possible they might be playing them exactly right.

Basically alternately threatening them while also playing to Kim Jong Un's vanity and running this "You know he's a pretty smart guy, probably does really want the best for his people but is just a little misguided, we should do lunch sometime and talk it out" routine.

Seems essentially like the "Silver or Lead" option that the South American cartels have operated by. Give them the opportunity to feel like a big deal, bluster a lot, and then offer a face-saving option that lets them bow out while looking like the victor (to their own people at least) while actually providing concessions/guarantees in some kind of deal behind-the-scenes.

"Yeah, we talked it over. North Korea seems pretty smart and tough, yep yep. Wouldn't really want to mess with them I guess. Glad we could come to an understanding."

Kim Jong Un might be thinking "Oh, here's an American who understands me."

I hate to say it, but indeed that makes some sense. It takes a crazy person to work with another crazy person. And DT is an expert on bluster.

You have a reference for that? He doesn't appear to have the patience and attention span for poker.

er.

It doesn't. They are both tolerably rational in pursuing the ends they seek , but the ends they seek are essentially those of being well-thought-of, wh ich isn't a well-defined condition. Either could decide that their best bet was to go out in a blaze of glory, which wouldn't do much for the rest of us.

What's leftist about being aware of Donald Trump's personal qualities?

Poker isn't a monolithic game, there are different styles of play. There's the guy who wears a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses and pretends to be a robot. And there's the guy who cracks jokes, tells stories, and rambles on about stuff.

Nah, I think suicidality runs against the grain of egomania. Why would you just trash a billion-dollar asset?

You don't think real estate investing is a long game? Investors just decide to buy property on a whim?

A lot of the investors that got into bed with Donald Trump don't seem to have chosen all that carefully.
