newbie question on DC oscillator

Sep 30, 2008 2 Replies

Hi,

Would appreciate some tips/info on how to use a frequency generator, a high-current DC power supply to oscillate/pulse the power supply. If there is a better forum to post this, please let me know as well.

I am looking for circuit X:

Freq.Generator -------> | circuit/device X | ------------> pulsed DC power output + regular DC power supply

Thanks

Sorry diagram didn't come out right.

should be:

Freq.Generator+Regular DC power ---> X --> Pulsed DC power

sci.electronics.basics may be better.

What power level, what frequency, what load? Do you just want to open the switch and let the voltage on the load do it's thing, or do you want to actively force the voltage down to zero? Do you expect 4-quadrant operation (i.e. do you expect that current will be flowing any which way as you change the voltage) or do you expect two-quadrant operation (which kind of implies a switch). Are you going to make a bazzilion of these, or one?

Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com Do you need to implement control loops in software? "Applied Control Theory for Embedded Systems" gives you just what it says. See details at http://www.wescottdesign.com/actfes/actfes.html
