Well, not really, because the area where I live was a 'brownfield' site in the 1950s, and had previously been used for low-density DIY housing since the 1920s, which had fallen into disuse, partly due to enemy action in WWII.

There weren't any human ones before the Native Americans crossed the Bering Strait.

I'm curious, though -- what didn't you like about the idea of condos? With housing prices what they are today, I think we'll be seeing a trend shortly towards less traditional home ownership and more condos, apartments, etc.

Well, if you are foolish enough to drive a car in London, you might as well pay for it. Sensible people take a taxi or the subway.

Over here that kind of people are called 'architects'. A lot of new houses may not be painted in a different color for the first X years. Worse, an architect can stop you from modifying your home or building when he/she finds his/her design is being molested.

It was actually fielded. I remember a "semi-advertisement" in one of my wife's magazines. You know, where they have a page of products that have a paragaph each, with a cute picture on each paragraph. Not quite advertisements, but not editorial copy either.

The paragraph said something like "Service is easy too - you'll never be by the side of the road with the hood open, because only Volvo - or Volkswagen I think it was actually - has the keys to open it!"

Over here the rules are not so strict. I have a diesel powered car and the only thing that gets tested is the amount of smoke it produces. Nox, CH, etc doesn't matter. On the other hand, the government is promoting small cars with 1.4l (or less) engines by offering tax reductions.

No I didn't. But some BMW models come with that kind of power as well. But it seems those models are not very popular.

Mercedes had some reliability issues. It seems they have learned and recent models appear to be Mercedes worthy again. Still, those cars are made for Europe and I'm not surprised they'll have some thermal issues when using those cars in a hotter climate. I used to own a Toyota, by the way. I think they design to drive in the hottest dessert possible. Over here the car never needed the extra fan to cool it.
