Spin a custom replacement out of a adj regulator on a small carrier board.

would be hard to mount since it has output on the tap not ground

something like this could work:

just need two resistors on pin3/4/5 to set the voltage

I don't recognize the part number; usually, 5.2V was a standard for NEGATIVE regulators; do you want negative or positive?

Positive.

This is in a BEC (battery eliminator circuit) that powers a flight controller; said FC has a diode after the V+ pin and the drop puts it too close to the min V of the FC cpu.

5.2v positive is fairly common in the RC world, and separate 5.2v BECs do exist, but every gram counts and for that and other reasons I'd like to keep the existing arrangement.

This one is at least available, but doesn't seem to be the right package.

A while back, Elektor published a project for a tiny SMD parts switcher to replace various 3-terminal regulators.
