LED susceptibility to ESD?

How susceptible is a LED to ESD; specifically, the backlight LEDs in a liquid crystal display?


I've taken out drivers and hosed systems, zapping LCDs but never a backlight. Don't know if there was any latent damage, though. If you're worried, put an anti-parallel diode across them.

If you are zapping an LED display, you are likely going to fail drive circuitry before you fry any of the LEDs. As you zap an LED, the driver circuit for it likely gets worse damage.

Nowhere near as sensitive as diode Lasers. Now, those are sensitive.

That is because they get modulated. The gate is what gets fried.

Diode lasers don't have a gate.

How do they get switched at 10Gb/s then? Certainly more susceptible than a simple continuous laser diode for a 'laser pointer'.
