Claim is 20% reduction of CO2 emissions- and of course that depends- on a lot of things. Japanese are installing them on their K Line.

Makes sense. The air doesn't change speed instantaneously, so always moving into fresh wind would get you more momentum overall.

Development was started in 2001 and it was launched 15 years ago. I wonder how it's doing.

Some ideas just keep coming back, like adding sails to diesel ships, airships, home windmills, flying cars, jet packs.

There's an impedance-match problem too, mismatch of ship velocity vs wind velocity. Windmills have variable-pitch blades.

It gets the wind-catching gizmo up to an altitude where winds are more reliable than near ground level. If you could tap the more-or-less permanent cyclone around the South Pole, that'd be really something.

Because it's a circular wind, any energy you miss on pass 1, is still there on the next cycle...
