A lot of IC design services have products, usually not off-the shelf like the big companies though. Often you have to know where to look and it may not even be online. Sometimes they are online, and this company impressed me when I was there:

Also, I have numerous clients that are perfectly happy to remain a private enterprise. In fact one owner vowed that his company is not for sale until he passes away, and that's exactly how it went.
I do not see what should hurt about that.
