I didn't see this one coming...

TI has acquired National!

I'm wondering which products are going obsolete next month since there is a huge overlap in the portfolio of both companies.

Well they do say:-

No requalification of products We will continue to run National's fabs No obsolescence of parts No part number changes Product roadmaps continue as planned

So maybe the month after next?

Yeah, my first thought was "....yet!". I can't see them keeping Portland.

Where are National's Fabs? I don't see them listed in the earthquake supplier update at mouser.

Cheers

They integrated Burr-Brown pretty well. Well, except for that little testing thing.

Nice pun... regardless of whether or not it was intentional. ;-)

I don't see NSC having anything special that would warrant a separate name. A lot of their stuff is duplication. Maybe they did want the fab, if the price was right.

Portland, ME, is one of their big ones. It may be just logic, though.

National has some parts that could complement TI's line, but not US$6.5billion worth in my opinion.

Last I heard, one of TI's fabs in Japan is offline until late summer, and that the affected fab produced a lot of linear parts. They had another fab affected as well, but not so badly I think. My bet is the acquisition is about replacing that capacity, and only coincidentally killing off a sometimes-competitor.

It'll be interesting to see if they can get this by the anti-trust folks.
