All I can say is that my experience is that it's definitely a problem with my cheapie (~$1.5K USD) CNC router and MDF sacrificial backing over the aluminum T-slots.

Could I bugger about with a DTI and shims and get rid of it for a smallish (say 3 x 3" pcb?) probably. Will I? No way.

Come on, look at the board and try. Instead of inventing people to sneeer at.

I have single sided PCBs that incorporated 0402 parts and micro-bga op amps. Did not have any problem and could have made it with this tool.

You like the idea of milling boards because you have never done it.

A lot of people learned about milling the hard way.

1 oz is fine, with a carbide dental burr.

That's a 1400 volt C-W multiplier.

Gold plated 1 oz is better. It solders great and doesn't tarnish.

I think we all know cost is not the issue. The issue is schedule. If you are a shop that frequently needs protos the same day this is a viable method. But that's not so many shops I'm sure. The rivets seem to limit the density a lot. I don't know how large they are, but a lot larger than 10 mil drills I expect.

That's great if your time is worth 40 cents per hour.

I wonder why they seem to never connect to the big copper areas on either side. I use the bottom as ground plane on my dremel boards.

I think he's a technician who works around electronics. He resents engineers who do magic that he doesn't understand.

That's a pretty common syndrome. The techs get all macho, wear cowboy hats and drive trucks and have lunch at strip joints.

Not too sure what you mean but it is difficult to solder to large copper areas. If you look at connections you will often see a small copper circle where the wire goes through and it is connected to larger areas of copper by small traces on 4 places. This lets the solder heat up the copper enough for a good connection.

yeh finicky slow process more suited to part sizes used 30 years ago and if you frequently needs protos the same day you are probably doing something wrong

still needs to do a schematic and a layout and since it needs to be done with the limitations of the milling you probably have to redo it later
