Not true. Don't you remember them battling in a nebula (don't remember the episode name), where they came up from below to blow away the badnick? Besides, in some of them they even maneuvered in the -T direction. ;-)

You would think, after el Enterprise is nearly blown to bits a zillion times, white sparks flying everywhere, that once in a while they'd lose their gravity generators and everybody would float around. Never happens.

They had several episodes where Kirk went around in a ripped shirt because they didn't have the budget for a backup. I expect zero-G sim was a little off the budget.

Never mind that SPACE SHIPS DON'T MAKE NOISE IN A VACUUM! :)

My burning truck story:

Waiting behind an old pickup at a light, I wondered why it didn't go when the light turned green. Then the driver hopped out, popped open the hood, and stripped off his jacket to start beating on a fuel-leak fire on top of the engine. Unfortunately, he was wearing a nylon down jacket. With every blow, some of the nylon disappeared and a cloud of feathers added to the flames.

I grabbed the fire extinguisher from my car (which I had carried for years for no reason) and one squirt had the fire out. Then I helped him push the pickup to the curb.

Nah.

They're furry squirrel-like creatures that don't drink much (water).

Well, in fairness, the flashes consists of sprays of white-hot molten metal, so getting out of the way is a natural instinct.

You probably didn't implement the interface that causes control panels to self-destruct in a chain reaction either. Shame on you.

In one of those ST movies (I forget which one), somebody beamed onto a Klingon ship and turned off the gravity generator, and suddenly these spacefaring warriors of an interstellar empire were rendered as helpless as babies. They didn't even try to "swim" or kick the walls or push off each other or anything. I was terribly disappointed, which is probably why I immediately forgot the movie.

And the Klingons bled green. ?:-/

This just reminded me - in some class in High School (1966-67), I think it was English class, in the "speech" segment, some guy did a report on Trek, and he mentioned exactly this.

Remember that one on Next Generation, where Geordi and Ro Laren get cloaked and phased, where they can walk through walls and people and whatever, but they can touch each other? I wonder what they were breathing, or for that matter, what they were walking ON?

That one is relatively harmless. But the belief in inertial dampers and holding onto a handrail protecting you from dropping out of warp is partly responsible for high US road deaths from not wearing seatbelts. And incidentally having the airbag explosive charge set to kill teenage drivers and shorter women so it can stop unrestrained 600lb slobs.

It is amazing how many people also travel with potentially lethal heavy projectiles on the rear parcel shelf. If you have ever seen what happens in an emergency stop with loose heavy things in the passneger compartment it is a heck of a lot worse in a collision.

If his starship ever dropped out of warp Captain Kirk would end up as a plasma monolayer on the viewscreen before vaporising the bulkhead.

Wrath of Khan actually did have that 3D aspect of space as a theme.

It wouldn't take too much alteration of our blood chemistry to get green or blue pigmentation either. We are not the only solution some terrestrial bugs do have interesting coloured oxygen carriers.

Don't you mean "all Titanium and Magnesium panels"? I mean, the ones on Star Trek didn't do that.

The episode escapes me at this time. Probably involved Klingons.

Not to mention the risk involved using the transporter. Every so often a Ensign Expendable just disappears into the ether. The only way to be 100% safe is to be one of the regular cast.
