Cute HV breakdown tester

The price was irrestistible and I had low expectations about build quality but this pocket sized HV breakdown tester is proving surprisingly useful...

+1. Dunno what it does, but if Piglet recommends it, I'm in.

Thanks for your faith. It is just a current limited high voltage supply.

You can find out what voltage a 75V rated 1N4148 actually breaks down at etc. Because the current is limited it is non-destructive to some things (not capacitors, but I was interested to see a 25V rated ceramic capacitor actually only shorted at 760V).

Because it goes to 2700V you too can verify John Larkin's test on 1400V rated FETs.

It is cute because it fits a shirt pocket.
