copper the new oil?

But it will be far more economical to make gasoline out of coal, which is what will happen.

The political rush to be green will switch to a political rush to make affordable fuels, and damn the CO2.

Oh, that too. Better than burning it, I suppose... at least theoretically the mercury and other heavy metals within coal can be collected during the fuel liquefaction stage, whereas the heavy metals (some of which are radioactive) are typically ejected to the atmosphere during coal combustion.

Making synthetic fuel from hydrogen and carbon dioxide is just one of my sick fantasies. Maybe when I make my first $billion. ;-)

Know any angel investors/venture capitalists, anyone?

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the sodium hypochlorite / chlorine step, however. There are other ways to capture and release carbon dioxide. (Any good Separations Process text will discuss these.)

Yep. Too much competition from developing countries.

Oh well... there's still Mars...

-- Consider: A million and a half new Americans are murdered every year by abortion. No other issue involves numbers that high. Nothing short of a full-scale nuclear or biological war between well-armed nation states would kill that many people, and we aren=92t in imminent danger of having one of those. Jobs? The economy? Taxes? Education? The environment? Immigration? Forget it. We do not have nine million people dying in a typical president=92s term of office due to bad job programs, bad economic policies, bad taxes, bad education, bad environmental law, bad immigration rules=97or even all of these combined. All of them together cannot provide a reason proportionate to the need to end abortion. Make no mistake: Abortion is the preeminent moral issue of our time. It is the black hole that out- masses every other issue. Presenting any other issues as if they were proportionate to it is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

The military budget percentage isn't that high... gimme programs are.

I say raise the military budget and obliterate (Shrillary's word :-) anyone who worships Islam with terror.

Ethanol is such a farce I'd swear that Al Gore invented it ;-)

Not quite the same situation. We are being flooded by _illegal_ immigration. Our border hospitals are overloaded by these freeloaders.

No but if it is claimed that someone has broken a law, they still have rights.

Yeah, three lame senators - a democrat with a good tan, a democrat with a hole in the middle; who want to toss us down the toilet of socialism, and Bush III, who will give us 100 more years of war and runaway inflation.

Sheesh! They used to say, "Would you rather be hung or shot?" Nowadays, it's more like, "Would you rather be flayed alive or boiled in oil?"

Thanks, Rich

Tyranny is a State function (nice pun), rather like energy. It does not matter what path you took to get there.

I think the argument on whether or not modern "liberals" are "fascists" is really arguing insignificant details -- not seeing the forest through the trees.

Modern "liberals" aren't strictly fascists, but they may as well be fascists, because their general goal is in fact tyranny.

free monkeys dot com, while a rather sensational site, does a good job on this particular point of concisely delineating the essentials:
