Contact Thermometer for Component Temperature

Huh...what luck..The chip I want to temp. measure has one NC pin. Datasheet says "In addition, all terminals are fully protected against up to 4 kV of electrostatic discharge." So...I'll assume that includes the 'No Connection' pin. The mystery NC pin :) Where it goes...nobody knows.. :P

Hopefully it's just to ESD diodes and nothing else. That way I can monitor the diode current with the chip running.

Bummer...I have to order another chip to test.. Still cheaper than a thermometer. :)

Have you done it on NC (No Connection) pins? Datasheet pins that seem to have no internal connection.

Well that would depend on what the input is supposed to do!

If you can find an input where the chip still works normally when it is taken low, that should be OK. You only need one. I wouldn't use the NC input you mention on another post - it might really be "not connected", or could go to some weird factory test mode circuit or something.

If you know the voltage-temperature curve, sure. But I would want to do a full curve the first time I tried it.

Truly No Connection, NOTHING there.

No Connection, Internal stuff tied there, don't use

ESD only

Forgot to mention that I just need one temperature data point. I'm just concerned in not exceeding the chip Tjmax of 150C. I like the ESD method, no case to die thermal resistance to consider. AFAIK the protection diodes are on the die.

The 1206 is at the larger end of the SMT scale. If I were to invest in this for testing purposes, I'd want something that could handle the smallest parts I'm likely to run across.

I doubt you'll be 'slaughtering' one of these. I'm not familiar with the Chinese product lines, but thermal cameras of this type start at $2K to $3K USD (and go up).

Well yes, I agree - given the price you mention (I never really looked for one of these) it should do better than be "just about" usable...

Hmm, lets say I would think twice before I would do it :-).
