Brushed universal motor speed controller connection?

Do I just (unplug and then) split one of the extension cord wires and attach the cut wire to those two terminals?

Thanks.

I'm aware of all the safety concerns. I will have a bona fide and
certified electrician inspect my work before installing the circuit.

Joe Hey

Yes, but it should be the "hot" wire.

On a two-prong polarized plug, is that the smaller/narrower of the two plugs?

Does the direction matter?

Thanks.

How can it matter? Kirchoff said "What goes in must come out" Assuming the wiring is all standard safe :-?

L1 is the small blade, that is the HOT side.

It most likely won't matter with that device but who knows.

Yes.

No. It's AC. You couldn't tell the line from the load if you wanted to.

It might not matter how it runs, but the bigger blade is the neutral side, which is slightly safer than the hot side. I guess it depends on how the motor is constructed. Namely, do they have the frame closer to the neutral side?
