Anyone have info on Honda generator data port?

The new Honda inverter generators have a 4-pin connector that has

+12V, TXD, RXD and GND. TXD appears to be open-drain, RXD reads ~670 ohms to ground with no internal pull-up.

I am trying to reverse-engineer the interface so I can get detailed status on the generator and put it up on a wireless server.

If you, or anyone else you know, have any contact with what-ever-it-is that plugs into that port, please let me know.

I have a feeling that there's a magic byte sequence that it's listening for. I really don't want to brute-force it :-)

Got a scope? Does it wiggle at all? Can you capture it and post it? Some folks can read NRZ right from the scope trace.

Have you tried RS-232 9600,N,8,1 and just tap the spacebar a few times?? If the Honda folks have any brains, you should at least be presented with a menu......

Maybe not.

Also, I'd be suprised if this info wasn't in the User's Manual. Good luck. -mpm
