It's an agricultural knife, used for cutting back big weeds, but it works fine on humans too.

cieties, and the US is almost the most unequal that they look at - only Por tugal and Singapore seem to be worse - tend to have very high rates of ment al illness, crime and violence.

anti-depressants.

e) is that high levels of inequality show up as large differences in status within society, and a lot stress for everybody. Where status differences a re smaller, trust and cooperation are a lot more common, and it's all much easier on the psyche. Low status people do suffer more damage, but high sta tus people in very unequal societies don't do as well as lower status peopl e in more egalitarian communities.

You have that exactly right about this kid, he was living in extreme anguis h and blamed his personal problems on his lack of wealth/status:

One of the resident wordsmiths is going to have to invent an antonym fr affluenza.

affluenza.

You've missed the point. Portugal is relatively poor and highly unequal, an d suffers from many of the same problems as the US which is roughly equally unequal but much richer.

The more egalitarian Scandinavian countries, Germany and Japan suffer much less from this group of problems.

It's not affluence on it's own that's creating the problems in the US, but the highly unequal distribution of affluence, and the problems are worse fo r that proportion of the population that has less of it. Even the rich in t he US do worse than poor in Scandinavia when it comes to the problems that arise from gross inequalities, but the poor in the US do much worse.

The antonym you are looking for might be "humanity".

When one "victim" of affluenza kills a few people on a drunk driving accident, and anouther rapes a three year old, and they get probation, they aren't looking for a cure, WE ARE.

these mufugs can look at themselves in the mirror. Obama wiht his drones, the othert gut with the shit he did. \

They are shielded from the consequenses of their actions and as such will never change.

Why would they ?

dent, and another rapes a three year old, and they get probation, they aren 't looking for a cure, WE ARE.

Getting rid of the current US constitution, which seems to have been design ed to let the people who own the country run the country behind a very thin facade of democracy, might be a significant step in the right direction.

the other guy with the shit he did.

Obama is at least aware that the US is a seriously and - in fact - an exces sively unequal society.

The rich swine who could buy something close to legal immunity by spending enough on lawyers probably thinks he's living in the best of all possible w orlds.

never change.

Because their bad behaviour reminds the rest of the population that they ar e living in a grossly unequal society. The "Occupy" movement was the first sign that the 99% were getting restive. If the 1% has any sense, they'll bu y off the rest of the population with at least some concessions before the

99% gets more restive.

suggests that they'd be wise to make some fairly generous concessions.
