Altium vs Orcad

I'll add to that you can of course also do hole-less jumper link using other methods like a through hole zero ohm resistor with the legs bent to make it surface mount. The longer your "jumper" the fewer you should need because you can route more tracks under there etc.

It's all a big trade-off as with many aspects of PCB design and layout.

I just got finish routing it. I got away with just 4 jumpers. I posted the route in alt.binaries.schematics. I might try and optimize it after I figure out how to print it to the correct scale ;/ lol.

I can get away with 0 jumpers if I were to route between the smd resistors. So its actually possible with this design to do it with no jumpers. I'm sure I could shring the horizontal dimensions too but I guess I first need to verify the design to makes sure everything works.

Anyone interested in the discussion about me routing my little project can look at what I did in alt.binaries.schematics.

In this case it is possible to do it with 0 jumpers if I were to route between the smd resistors. This is what I was after in the first place.

Damn, this thing is huge ;/ its about 4''x2''. Thought it would be smaller. I guess I could make the headers smaller. I created the footprint because I was thinking I might have to route more traces between them but I guess I can actually do it a lot smaller. Sucks to have to go through it all but I guess thats where experiences come into play.

I'm thinking that I could probably increas the pad distance on those smd resistors a bit and put a trace between them to avoid the jumpers completely.

My copies of 2000 and 2001 don't have dongles. Just an installation key. Maybe something to do with a multi-seat copy???

2006 may not have a dongle, but if it is anything like 2004, it calls home every time you run it, and it gets bitchy if it can't.

Perhaps you'd like to post it to a web site so more people can see it? It has not showed up on Usenet Replayer yet, so I can't see it.

4 jumpers sounds like a good effort.

0805 is such a nice size. Easy to mount, etc. They seem like they are made better too sometimes.

Good ol' fashioned teflon sheathed 28GA TPC jumper wire also works well for "jumpers". Imagine that. Don't forget the super glue "Tak-Pack".

Likely design rule violation, depending on the resistor form factor used.
