5 Gbps wireless good for 9 meters?

I found this article "GiFi wireless chip to bring 5Gb per second":

The claim is 5 Gbps at a distance of 9.1 meters using a 5 x 5 mm chip with a 1 mm antenna. Power 2 W. Cost 10 USD. Frequency 60 GHz.



For real or just vapor?

Real. One of the things that makes it practical is water vapor - shorter range, but less interference from other transmitters in the same band, due to O2 and H2O absorbtion.

You may see more finessed solutions (e.g. OFDM) soon. Cost will be lower, too. Also see:
