Hello Jim,
Sounds like the big three. Then crude oil doubled in price and now they are sitting on their 'more profitable products' while Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai are having a field day.

Thems are most often the funnest ones. Anybody can build a circuit with a gold soldering iron.

Hello Jim,
The funnest ones are those where you replace some obsoleted big-$$ item, such as a $15 FPGA. Last time I did that they asked in the design review "So what's it cost?". "Buck-thirtyfive".
The most striking one was where I kicked out three silicon digital delay lines totaling about $200. They also happened to be quite a purchasing nightmare. The (mostly analog) circuitry that replaced them cost about $2.50 and the phase noise went way down. Only jelly bean parts, the client could buy them on every street corner.
Regards, Joerg
