laser diode driver

Does anyone know of a laser diode driver for 1.5 Gb/s, which comes packaged with a 50 ohm SMA connection? I have a laser diode that I am trying to directly modulate for telecoms applications - the diode comes with a 50 ohm matched SMA connector. Most of what I have been able to find out there so far are the chip versions, which also comes with a lot more bells and whistles than I need (I just mainly need a modulation and bias current adjust).

Failing that, I am thinking of using a variable gain broadband amplifier with bias tee.

Any suggestions, thoughts or comments?

Many thanks.

Don't diss those bells and whistles, at least not the protective features. All it may take is a nanosecond of excess current and the laser diode goes poof. If, for example, the supplies on your broadband amp come up in a way that it generates a wee spike that might already be enough.
