Ground wire choke

Another magnetics question :-(

What is a 'ground wire choke' - how does it differ from any other inductor?

For example, this one...

...is supposed to be 2mH at 16A, but it's surely far to small for that?

As an aside, it's very frustrating when suppliers don't know the difference between nH uH mH in their parameter selection criteria.

Using the disties' parameter search is a bit like getting an intern to do something- you really have to check their work.

Just a wild uninformed guess - the insulation appears to just be lacquer. Are they specifying it as a gnd side choke as there would likely be a lower potential on the gnd side??

I don't know. I'm just sure it's way too small for 2mH 16A, so I wonder if it's not meant to take *any* significant DC, but the 16A is the fusing current?

The DENO datasheet says:

Applications

- Separating the main earth line to periphery devices

- This type of chokes permits the building of a system free of ground wire loops

This raises issues, many of us can tell stories.

The DENO-40-0001 has 1.8mm wire, AWG 13. The other types are 1.12mm, AWG 17.

Dunno about the need for such high current ratings. Similar lower-current parts are 43 cents each on eBay.

China Post has some kind of special deal with the USPS, they can ship something here from China for less than I can mail it across town.

Ferrite core, small signal inductance. It's half a common mode choke.

You still didn't provide any circuit details about what it is you're doing. We still have no way to tell if you're Doing It Wrong(R) or what.

I'm actually using some custom-wound toroidal chokes for my application, it's just that I came across these 'ground wire chokes' and wasn't familiar with them. It was fairly obvious that they couldn't really be

3mH @ 16A in that size, but now Klaus Kragelund has explained it.
