Well, it is dark in the hands of the usual bad people who only want to destroy anything that is not in their posession (often under the flag of "proving that it is not unbreakable"), but of course it can be a nice gadget to pack in your laptop bag. When it gets stolen, the thieve or fence who examines the goods and is curious what is on that USB stick will destroy their stolen laptop and have no fun.

Make sure you put a big warning message on it, something like, "XXX rated contents! Do NOT plug in!"

Or maybe, "Contains Hillary's missing emails. From Russia, with love! Top secret, authorized personnel only"

Or what about, "Mission Impossible information. Warning: will self-destruct!"

Unless you can pack enough C4 into the USB stick. ;-)

When the DIY version of that first made the news, it was shortly before the time when David Miranda got detained at Heathrow for the spies to fiddle with his computers and disks. I wondered what would have happened had he been carrying a bunch of those in his pocket.
