Is there an Ada 2012 compiler for current RPi OSes?

Yes. The first four answers for "GNAT Ada compiler for RaspberryPi" in IXQuick told me that and the third hit told me how to install it:

$ sudo apt-get install gnat

Curiosity: did you try an Internet search or query the Raspbian package repository before asking here?

I'm torn between ignoring your snark and chastising you for it. Curiosity: which would you prefer?

No, he is merely pointing out that some peole use usener as a last resort, others as a first resort.

I reckon around 85% of all questions posed on Usenet are answerable by a careful google search.

But that may take time

True, but inapplicable in this case.

Please don't answer like this.

If someone prefers to get their information in a conversation with a human, that's perfectly legitimate. You don't have to answer if you don't feel like it.

They also shouldn't be asked to justify why they're asking. There are many reasons why this might be the most appropriate way for them to ask, but in any case, it doesn't matter, and they don't have to provide any reasin.

And who appointed you moral arbiter of Usenet?

Every time I see the word 'should' 'ought' 'have to' typed out without a qualifying context, I know I am reading a bigot's post.

The world of difference between 'IF you want your computer to work,THEN you SHOULD switch it on'...

...And the context free 'you SHOULD switch your computer on' (as a matter of moral duty?).

I am always tempted to say you SHOULD just f*ck off.

Why not The answer provided the information the OP needed along with details on how the answer was found.

there was a slight hint of sarcasm in the question about whether or not the Op tried a search first but obviously intended to educate.

One doesn't need to be moral arbiter of anything to make a request that someone do something differently.

I think you're the only person who has mentioned it. Please feel free to do and think whatever you like.

'Should' is not a request. It is a diktat.

And I dont need your permission for that, either.

Actually it's a value-judgement, but never mind.

Feel free to think that.

And please feel free to have the last word, it's all yours.

Why? Martin has now thrown light upon two more avenues of inquiry.

That's true. He can also buy me a beer for my answer, and failing that I can tell him to pound sand. Ultimately, had the OP helped himself and simply googled (minus quotes) "ada 2012 raspberry pi" he might have stumbled upon

Nope. 1. I had already extensively explored the www and did not find definitive answers.

  1. Further contrary to the conclusions he jumped to I do not possess a RPi to apt-get with.

Goodness, now you are doing it too.

In that case I suggest you go away and learn how to use a search engine: thats evidently something you're not at all good at.

In that case why were you wasting our time by asking questions whose answers are not, apparently, of any use to you?

You really are quite a champion at jumping to unwarranted conclusions. I suggest you save yourself the trouble of furthers leaps into ignorance.

Yes. Think of Google as being Tier 1 helpdesk. When you come here to ask questions because Google hasn't been helpful, they should be more challenging.

And thus more interesting, and more likely to get responses, and less likely to cause people to react with GIYF.
