Sony Camera, I think I made a Boo-Boo

Sony CCD-TRV68

I replaced the switch block assy (play, pause, stop, etc and zoom mounted on the flip up door over the tape) Everything worked !

After I re-assembled the unit I found I had no record audio. Playback audio is fine on tape for eveything recorded before the mishap.

I've pulled it apart and checked ribbon cables, loose board connectors anything I could thing of.

I'm in a quandry for for on this one. I'm hoping someone who works on these a lot will have some advice.

Thnx Sparkey

I have not worked on your model, but check the sensor for the tape record protection. It is possible that the unit thinks that the tape is protected from being recorded to. Other than that, if must be a connection somewhere. Or, you may have to have the unit properly troubleshooted to find out what the failure is causing the fault.

Here's a general suggestion that might help you narrow you problem down..

Try hooking the audio output (supposing it has one) up to the tv and see if it is outputting any sound. If it isn't check the wires going to the microphone and check for loose connectors broken solder connections. One of the wires may have broken off the microphone itself. If it is outputting sound to the tv then your problem must be more complicated and will probably need to be serviced by a tech..

If it's going into record mode and recording video but not audio then surely it can't possibly be the record protection sensor/switch?

It's probably a lifted solder pad on one of the connectors, a cracked ribbon cable or similar fault.

Hi Again;

Well, I finally found the ribbon cable that connects the infrared sensor and microphone to be defective. I put a metter on it and checked every lead. One was open. Guess which one ?!

You got it ! Thanks Dave and all you guys for your help
