Does anyone know if a standard computer IDE cd/dvd drive can be used in place of the original drive? Also would it need to be jumpered as master?
Thanks

I have used a couple of home DVD player drives in computers, as long as the IDE connector is the same! Can't garantee it though! Depends on what units you have! Rono.
I personally tried it temporarily with a different brand DVD player and it worked fine. Do a search on the web. I've seen sites where people show how they did it. Mechanical mounting should be the only hard part. Andy Cuffe

Yes & no.
From:
"Some drives require an "authentication" process once a disc is inserted before the drive will retrieve the data from encrypted sectors on a DVD-ROM. The AD600a firmware (at least rev. A8, I don't know about others) does not perform this authentication process, so a drive requiring authentication will only send unencrypted sectors..."
