What is sybillance?

Yes I know what it sounds like, but can someone give me a freq domain analysis (i.e. how to get rid of it by filtering) and a time domain analysis (i.e. what it looks like on the waveform?) I'm guessing it's clipping on only the higher frequency components of the signal and the transfer function of the system causing it would be a LPF with a high peak just before rolloff. Any help appreciated.

I'm no audio expert, but I do not believe the audio system is causing (creating) it. It is a component of the music and/or voices being processed by your sound system. If the treble frequencies have too much system gain, or if the mid-band frequencies are attenuated relative to the treble, the sybillance sounds could become a nuisance. But when the amp and speakers are correct, they give wanted detail to the overall sound. I think you are over-tweetered."

There are excellent freeware and shareware sound editors you can download to examine and alter audio signals.
