I recently replaced two cheap B&Q manual light dimmers with X10 (LW10U) remotely control units. They work OK but both X10 dimmers buzz so loudly that they can be heard 20ft away, especially when the lights are dimmed.
I know most triac dimmers buzz a little but these X10 units are ridiculous. The loads are 60W and 200W respectively. The cheap B&Q dimmers didn't make any noticeable sound at all.
I took the dimmers apart thinking it might be due to physical vibration of the coils and covered them in epoxy resin but it made no difference at all.
Is there anything I can do to stop this noise? Does this suggest poor circuit design of the X10 units?
