6volt 1.8amp PSU

Hi, Probably a dumb question,... but I'm trying to locate a suitable mains adapter. Currently battery powers (4 x D Cells) the external power inlet is marked as 6v, 1.8a. However, all of the regulated PSUs I can find are < 600ma. does this mean I'm stuck with using batteries?

Thanks in advance, G.

Search their cat for "mains adaptor 6V" and get 24 hits

They have at least one....6V @ 2.1A adaptor...

although in-the-cable 2.5A type is cheaper...

They have others upto about 4.5A

Not sure if they have a minimum order value to get free postage but their delivery is excellent.

For ratings of above 600 ma or so, you have to go to a table top type power supply. There are very few small wall-box type supplies that are manufactured that are rated above 600 to 800 ma.

Most of the electronic distributors sell table top 12 Volt supplies. They are regulated, and the smallest models start with about a 3 Amp rating and up to a large amount.

As long as the voltage to the load is correct, the load will draw the current that it needs. A 3 Amp regulated supply will work very nicely with a load that is averaging below 2 Amps.

"Gussie Finknottle"?? I always liked "Fannie Hunkapillar", which is a real name. Then some parents have no sense of humor, and name their kid Chanda Lear. :-P

Not strictly true. I have a 6v 2A SMPS for my phone. Its a wall brick unit, weighs 150g. very light, almost feels empty. I have another 5v 800mA which is 1.5" square wall brick, even lighter.

SMPS are getting common now.
