Closed Circuit

Hi,

My niece has a question on her homework, and we can't find an answer anywhere! She's only 10, so it should be a fairly simple question -if you know anything about circuits, which I don't!

What is needed for a closed circuit?

I appreciate any help!

Jill~

If you're asking about electrical circuits, you need a complete loop from power source through a load and back to the power source. Below is a diagram of a closed loop circuit:

Please view in a fixed-width font such as Courier.

/ +--------/ ----------+ | Switch | | | +-+-+ ***** | | * * | | * * Battery | | ***** Lamp | | | +-+-+ | | | | | +---------------------+

The loop is formed by the ability of the current from the battery to flow from its positive terminal through the closed switch, through the lamp (the lamp glows) and back to the negative terminal of the battery. Note that if the switch is opened, the loop is opened and no current can flow, and the lamp will not glow.

If you're talking about closed circuit TV systems, that means that connections (the connections may be wired or wireless) from the camera goes only to the TV receivers that are connected to the camera. It's intended for security systems, etc., where the TV signals are not intended for broadcasting to the public; in other words, intended only for private use.
