Proxima DP6150 has issues

Hi,

I rescued this projector. Works fine -- great image, ~100 lamp hours, cosmetically clean, etc. -- but it doesn't like to *keep* working! :<

Unit shuts down after just a few minutes of "lamp on" (I haven't checked to see how long it lasts in standby mode -- I suspect "forever"). At least one fan is running so it shouldn't be a *normal* thermal issue -- I suspect a component in the PS may be overheating? Or...?

Pointers to where to start? Or, should I just salvage the lamp and toss the unit?

I have a discarded projector with the same issue. I measured temperatures and they are really very high despite the fans. I suppose the lamp is almost end of life and the electronics stabilizes the light, so it puts more power into the lamp than for a new lamp. Thus the extra heat. When using it at "reduced light" it will run for 15 minutes until shutdown, just nice for a demo. Buying a new lamp is a no-no, the price is much too high.

Hmmm... I guess that's a possibility -- but, I would imagine when

*yours* shuts down, it gives you some indication? Alarm indicator? And, at the very least, KEEPS THE FAN(s) RUNNING? In my case, it acts as if the unit had just been unceremoniously unplugged!

Exactly. Hence my reason for suggesting *saving* the existing lamp (100 hours on it).

It gives a blinking LED pattern signalling 'lamp too hot'. Fans stay on. I need to power cycle to recover.

I'm saving the whole thing - maybe I'll get a better lamp (or idea) sometime...
