NIC:10/100/1000 TAPPING AND TIME STAMP

Nov 26, 2010 0 Replies

I have a project that I need to monitor 2 Ethernet network Traffic (10/100/1G it could be either) between Point A&B and Point C&D,

I need to be transparent to the network, No negotiation or filtering I need to take the 2 traffic, time stamp it (very precise us resolution, base on a GPS 1PPS signal) and save it to a hard drive.

The Traffic between A&B, C&D must be uninterrupted (A-B or B-A) and (C-D or D-C)

So I must be inline on both network. Is IEEE1588 the solution for the Time stamping? Anyone recommend a switch chip off the shelf with 1588 support: like Marvel or other. I found realtek switch but no 1588 support.

I have 8 line PCiexpress for the data transfer. Any design recommendation would be great. thank you
