Hi All,I am working on an electronic engine controller with CANbus at250kpbs. It is used on a large 200KW generator set, 480V-3phase.Getting some strange CANbus missing data but very intermittent andonly seems to happen in the testing lab and not in other situations.The only difference I can think of is that in the lab the main powerwires are connected to a load bank to run under load testing. I alsonoticed that the CANbus wire is shield twisted-pair but it runningdirectly on top of the AC alternator and current transformer so itspractically living next to the main power outputs of the generatorset.I'm wonder if its conceivable that 60hz electric or magnetic fieldinterference could effect the CANbus at all?Thanks,Paul

CAN is quite robust to the air coupled junk. Most likely you are experiencing the strong common mode interference along the CAN line. Make sure there is no bouncing between the ground potentials on the both ends of the bus, and there is no grounding currents via CAN.Vladimir VassilevskyDSP and Mixed Signal Design Consultant

Sorry to send you on a fool's errand, the correct number is DP8392.

Using google I found the datasheet on "digchip.com", (that site requires free regitration).

Paul, we use CAN over long distances and only had problems with the Ground signal where the ground is different on two nodes. CAN-H and CAN-L are tolerated only until a certain level (24V ?). One other problem we had was our power supply (switched regulated wall power supply - ), Now we have one with a 3 pin connector to the power (L-N-Earth). Have you considered using some ferrites?
