Voltage shedding question

Just thinking here (not vouching for the quality of the thinking): if I had a lamp in there, and it burned out, it would open. So the capacitor would not discharge when power was removed. When a replacement lamp is then brought close to the lamp holder contacts, would arcing be a problem? A resistor on the other hand would just open, and to fix it you'd need someone who (hopefully) would know to discharge the cap.

I have a LED to bleed the filter caps so I can tell whether they are charged (looks nice through the vents too). I am quite careful with caps--but then, I'm careful with bikes, and I've hurt myself with them.

No. There's a tiny stored charge at the most.

OK, I just lost the plot here. I thought the point of the resistor/lamp/whatever was too bleed off a potentially dangerous stored charge. What did I miss?

Yes. If the lamp goes open of course there'll still potentially be some charge there but not enough to cause an arcing problem. I was more concerned about someone touching the pins of a mains plug when the unit's unplugged than any problem replacing a bulb, at least those contacts are recessed.

Gotcha. Forgot to think out to the end of the cord. Won't let that happen again. Thanks for the explanation!
