Small headphone amplifier

I need to slightly amplify audio from my PC sound card to mono headphones. This is for use with Skype (VOIP) so it doesn't need to be high fidelity or anything. It just needs a little boost.

My first thought was to just buy an LM386 chip at Radioshack, but this needs at least 4 volts and I'd much rather power it off one or two AA batteries.

Does anyone know of a cheap product, circuit, kit, or parts available at Radioshack that would do the job? I can solder just fine.

Thanks for your help.

Google "headphone amplifier", get 2 million results. Will that do?
