I have built a four digit counter using an Allen Bradley photoswitch which clocks four 74190s (Up/Down Decade Counters). When the beam from the photoswitch is interrupted, the counter counts up.



I would like to be able to decrement the counter manually with a single switch and have it act independently from the photoswitch (when decrementing, the switch should be the clocking device, not the photoswitch). This switch would have to drive the up/down pin AND the clock pin of the 74190s at the same time. It doesn't seem like you would be able to control both up/down and clocking operations at the same time due to the propagation delays of the 190s.



Does anyone have any ideas on how I can decrement these 74190s with a single switch?

Induction sensor The Belden 8723 wire is 2TP 22AWG and a run can 100+ feet long, in metal conduit.

12V is run on one pair with signal on the other.

Most of the simple PWM circuits you come across will be OK. Even something like a 555 feeding a TIP Darlington is quite capable of running a big golf-cart motor, so a couple of these types of PWM could do the job. Electronic reversing would need an H bridge. Much easier though with relays. regards john

I have a DS18S20 connected to a pic, readings fluctuae on every read ie,



25.01 ,.10, .20, .06 etc, should the reading be stable? is there a way to stabalise them? i also get the same reactions when reading values from the ad ports ie 24,26,23,27 steps it doesn't stay too stable even though the value via a dmm is....

Neither. The two freqs are so far apart that you should be able to get what you want by using a high pass filter. Change the coupling capacitor in the preamp to a smaller value, so that the lower audio freqs can't get thru. Or else add a high pass filter somewhere near the input.

I've noticed it a _whole_ lot. I have a bunch of TAB books out in the garage for that exact reason. I picked them up for real cheap at thrift stores or garage sales, etc. I started to check each book out and found that there was so many errors that I wouldn't consider it a worthy addition to my library and I certainly wouldn't wish it on even my worst enemy, so I tossed it in the garage. You can put reverse biased diodes across some points to clamp the voltages to the supply and ground. Zeners also might help in certain places. When all else fails, use sockets so that you can replace the parts that burn out. ;-)

And make sure that the diodes can handle high enough current to not burn out, too.

Oh, stereotyping is easy. Mine's a Kenwood.

Being a true masochist, I thought I'd try deriving the Laplace xfer function for this filter and it's getting ugly. Before I go further, I thought I'd ask if I'm setting it up right, er, umm, ... efficiently?

Ok, here's my situation:



I have this project where I would like to do some remote sensing of



16-20 analog inputs, about ten samples per second, and receive it in real time on my PC. Don't need much precision; 8 bits is plenty. Range is less than 30 feet.

After reading up a bit, I'm thinking the most straightforward way is to use some microcontroller with a digital RF transmitter, say for example the rfPIC12C509AF, and an ADC to collect and transmit data cyclically to a reciever connected to my PC.



It's the receiver I'm wondering about. I kind of expected this to be a rather typical use for a transmitter (send telemetry to your computer), so I kind of expected to see some receievers that I could connect to a PC, say via a serial port, obviating the need to build one myself. But I can't find any.



So, can anyone point me to something that does what I need? More generally, does this sound like a good strategy? I'm open to suggestions.



In case I've successfully managed to hide the fact that I haven't done anything like this before, I'd like to keep it straightforward. I have to order all this stuff from scratch. I do know the equations very well, but I have hardly any experience actually wiring stuff together.

Generate a supply limited square wave, couple to a voltage doubler (3 diodes + 3 capacitors) sitting on top of the + supply . O/P = 9V + 2X9V

- volt drops minimised by using schottky diodes. Regulate o/p down to 18V.

Do a web search on "RF modems". There are a lot of companies that make fairly inexpensive units. You could use a cheaper PIC, and output RS-232 into an RF modem linked to your PC. As a bonus, your PC could also talk to your PIC and do any kind of control you might need.
