OT Incredible Taxation

Something turning up in some blogs and RSS feeds that caught my interest.

No one can make stuff like this up:

In some virtual reality multi player games the games go on "forever" and players come and go. Well the game writers sprinkle limited numbers of some assets throughout the game and one keeps score with virtual currency.

The interesting part comes in when some players sell their assets for real money on Ebay. Too lazy to acquire the virtual wealth or lusting after some very limited asset advantage? Just buy it with money. A whole cottage industry is developing where some individuals pay people to play the games and acquire assets with the idea of selling them.

Now the IRS is looking at the virtual money with an eye to taxing it - taxing the virtual asset even before it is sold.
