How do I charge a Sub-C Battery ?

Only the usual dry cell sizes - ie AAA, AA, C, D ....

Used that method for many years with various model racing boats ( 2 and 4 stroke) employing glo-plug motors.

You can use a 12 volt automotive lamp wired in series with a single Ni-Cd cell ( or several) - maybe 10 or 12 watt rated - like the tubular shaped ones used in overhead lights.

Used with a 12 volt SLA or wet cell, for you starter motor, the 12 volt bulb will limit charging current to a safe level - the sub-C should be fully charged (warm to the touch) in about an hour and a half.

BTW

I always found Sanyo red sub- C cells to be the best.

It depends. If it's an ordinary 1.2V NiCd, then I'd think that almost any NiCd charger that's sized for the AH rate would work. Same with NiMH, but they're a little more touchy about being charged. What "kind" of battery is it, in other words?

And, what's a sub-C anyway?

If they'll charge single cells (many chargers only do pairs) and and you can get the sub-c into the compartment and into contact with the terminals that's all that's needed.

sticking a wad of al-foil or similar lump of metal under the base of the cell to increase its length may help.

Sub C is shorter than standard C cell. You can use a "AA" charger, just connect the batteries with alligator clips and a rubber band around the cells. Most chargers need to charge two cells at once. Make sure you use the same mAh rating on both bats
