High capacity caps for ram backup

Hi all,

My electronics knowledge is pretty basic; I know enough to be dangerous. :)

I have a device which uses a cap for 'battery backup' of parameters. The cap is listed as as GC5.5v, .22f. The cap has an 'M' on it; I can't tell who makes it. Panasonic seems to have similiar caps though - 'their SG and SD gold series'

Without knowing more about the circuit it is in, is it 'fairly' safe to increase the cap to 1f or so? The battery backup isn't nearly long enough.

I realize it will take ~5x longer to charge the cap (which is fine). Thanks for any answers, RJ

I think it is mostly a matter of cost.
