I rarely use gapped cores, for two reasons. They are almost never catalog parts and they can cause EMI headaches. In a boost you can be fine with a non-gapped core as long as you keep the peak current from saturating the core. This is one of the reasons why my designs are almost exclusively current-mode. Reduces the kablouie factor quite a bit ;-)
