Zener turn-on question

After screwing around with this topology for a couple days my opinion at this point is in agreement with Fred Bloggs - it's a clever hack but it's still a hack, it works okay when it works, but it's just too twitchy for me to invest much more time in. It seems very sensitive to component values, supply voltage, etc. and some layouts work, while others refuse to oscillate (as oscillators tend to do.) The modifications I made to the circuit may also make it unstable, not really sure without being able to use a sim with a mixed-signal model.

Might come back to it at some point but it's being shelved for the moment.

Best to bite the bullet and go with an off-the-shelf boost chip that can operate from low voltages. Life's just more pleasant that way.

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels did rather more for the world than Groucho M arx.

Karl Marx did - in later life - espouse the "leading role of the party" whi ch got him thrown out of the international socialist movement in 1870, on t he entirely correct basis that his ideas were undemocratic, but he and Enge ls pioneered the evidence-based process of finding out the facts and docume nting them which was later exploited by the Fabians (amongst others) to pro vide a rational basis for social policy. This isn't an approach which is al l that popular in the US, as it conflicts with the US idea that the rich ou ght to be given every chance to get richer at everybody else's expense, but it does trump Groucho's not insignificant contributions.

You did it for non-financial remuneration. "Hawk" stands.

It's not a limerick - wrong number of syllables and wrong beat. I checked with my wife, who has won prizes for her limericks (or at least one prize for one of them). Stephen Fry

covers the limerick in Chapter 11.
