And with skin effects and other conductor artifacts, that same electron may not even woosh back and forth. It might woosh into a conductor and sit idly by while other "extra" electrons perform the remaining forward woosh, and the woosh back the other way.
A given electron could enter a conductor and not only not get pushed out the other side, but never get pushed around again, if it ends up in the right spot.
