Testing a 2N3904 avalanche pulse generator tonight, I discovered an unusually strong source of noise:

The RC curve on the left is the capacitor + junction capacitance recharging after a "big one".Downside, it requires a 100V supply, much more than the usual emitter-base avalanche noise generator.
