TVS in automotive design

What minimum standoff voltage is recommended for peripheral device protection? I am thinking of using SMC - DO214 package to protect a low power device from load dump surprises. The circuit has a 100mA Poly fuse and I am planning to put a TVS behind it.

Can the poly stand the overvoltage? Many can't.

Polyfuses are very fuzzy components. Their bad-tolerance trippoint can vary a lot more over temperature, and depend seriously on the pcb pad/trace sizes.

The SMC sounds like overkill here.
