Tube/Valve type electrometer schematic

Hi,

I'm looking for a schematic for a simple electrometer for detecting electrostatic fields.

I am particularly interested in playing around with static charge and static dissipative effect of different air-ioniser designs. I am thinking a FET based electrometer is probably very easily fried in this environment

I have some old electrometer tubes, still in their original packaging, how hard would it be to construct a basic instrument, it doesn't need to be calibrated but I would like to be able measure both positive and negatively charged plates.

If electrometer tubes are also easily destroyed by excessive voltage - I'll stop messing with them and use a FET or dedicated IC and try harder not to blow it up!

Thanks in advance,

Philip

Look for older Keithley electrometer manuals;600 series,IIRC.
