Transistor Test Values

I have 3 NTE235 (NPN) transistors which have been in circuits previously. I am trying to determine if they are ok for further use. Two of the transistors show a BE diode function test value of 1.3V the other shows a BE of .95V. All three show a BC value of about .65V. All three also show BE and BC resistances of between 4.7 and 5.0 megohms. It is the high resistance readings I am most concerned with.

Any advice much appreciated.

A tr looks like 2 diodes when treated as a 2 terminald device.

C ----||---- E

Diodes other way for pnps.

So your 1.3v reading tells me either the tr is faulty, or else you were putting a lot of current thru it to get that high a reading.

Its a lot quicker to put your tr into a simple general purpose circuit to see if it works.

"internal corrosion"?????????????????????????????????? Are you from Mars?

** The high BE junction voltages would make me think they were faulty.

Generally - such readings indicate either the chip is damaged or it is suffering from internal corrosion.

** Metal corrosion exists on planet earth.

It can travel up copper device leads and contaminate chips and eat away at terminations.

Not likely in the vacuum of space where cretinous cadets like you live.

The 1.3V transistors sound like Darlington types.

Hmm, cross to the obsolete Toshiba 2sc2075 transistor?

I have *never* seen corrosion that way. BTW, most device leads are not copper. Now if you are referring to the infamous "purple plague" that existed about 40 years ago...

Yes, that one, at least, maps forward to the NTE235. There may be others. Who knows what the NTE part actually is...
