Speaker magnet backing plates?

Dec 21, 2008 1 Replies

Can anyone describe what type of steel is used for backing ring magnets in audio speakers? I understand it has special properties but am not sure exactly what these are or how they are obtained. What is the fabrication process? Can it be purchased in uncut sheets?

** It is ordinary mild steel.

** Mild steel has the best properties for creating a strong magnetic field in a gap - provided it is fully saturated by the energising magnet.
