SATA interface for EIDE drive?

If you define it that way, there are no original on computer storage. Even on the same hard disk, os can move, merge and/or defrag data sectors.

They're obviously the original copy. Now where is that half glass of water...

Just get a dual bay USB feeding drive bay.. Yes, I *know* I just suggested a USB solution.

What you want does not exist as SATA did away with any hint of master/slave requisites/needs.

I need the opposite: adapters to put 2 SATA drives in a cabinet with PATA controllers. Thus far the ones I find all talk about 1 drive; i.e. no master/slave.

Tt's one SATA cable per drive, you'll need 2 SATA host to EIDE drive adaptors if you want to run two EIDE drives.

Will both work on the existing dual-EIDE cable?

The HDE SATAPATASATA adapter has zero paperwork, so there is no "talk". Mechanically, it is (obviously) for one drive; one might term that as "generic". So, using 2 of them, try: jumper one SATA as Master and the other as Slave and place the adapters on the cable in the correct positions. One would think that would work. To be gutsy, jumper both as Cable Select and see just how far these adapters go.

USB 3 is faster than nearly ALL eSATA interfaces that I am aware of. It even gets listed/touted that way on drive enclosures/bays on Amazon, etc..

The computer has FW800 & USB2; no ESATA or USB3.

That was my concern/query. Do only some adapters honor that, or do they all expect that they are Masters?

you'll probably have to replace the single cable with two.

There are "bi-directional" adaptors advertised. If there's one with two SATA ports that might work on a single EIDE cable. if it doesn't work it's not as-advertised, so you're due a refund.

USB 3 drive enclosures work in a USB 2 port. Are you that far from having common sense or keeping up with modern gear?

The eSATA remark was to demonstrate that there is no speed hit compared with an SATA port. Sheesh.
