S'ware to FM arb waves

I am presently using CoolEdit to generate modulated audio tones for test purposes. The only FM envelope that is possible to define is a sine, square or triangle.

Is anyone aware of a software signal generating application (Windows PC) that will allow me to FM a signal with a _complex_ or arbitrary waveform? This also implies a graphical interface of some kind for shaping the latter.

Both the carrier and modulating frequency should be created in software, ie. not sampled.

I need something that will output via the soundcard as save as WAV or MP3, not just a mathematical model.

Thank you,

Matlab does it, get the Signal Processing and Communications package.

Bah. Any decent grade of SPICE can be trained to produce the most incredibly complex waveforms. The data table output can be easily parsed and translated into a .wav file. If you know much about programming, and hopefully some electronics, you can generate more complex waveforms than anyone thought of before. Think of differential AM and FM vibrato on an already complex waveform. Then use that to FM and AM modulate a subcarrier, add that to many other subcarriers. then do FM again. Take some time it may. MathCad can partially automate such tricks easier than SPICE. Still, you have to know your tools well to do these tricks.

Or, IIRC, LTSpice has a direct WAV output for any combination of Generators or Circuit processing you want to do. And it's free. Ask your question over at the Yahoo Group

Helmut Sennewald drops by here from time to time and would certainly know more about it.
