When it was driven by methane release, as in the Paleocene-Eocene warm period, some 55 million years ago, they lead temperature. Do try to get your head around what actually happened, and why it was happening.

Global warming is also called climate change. The first effect of a warmer surface temperature is that the ocean surface evaporates more water, putting more energy into the bottom of the atmosphere, where it makes more energetic weather. More snow storm, rather than fewer.
