I confused you with Jeff Layman in the "new polymer caps" thread.
It certainly seemed to make Jeff Layman anxious. He seemed to think that a warmed vacuum desicator would blow the polymer caps apart. If you combined it with enough heating it probably could, but just enough heating to counteract any evaporative cooling should be innocuous.
Degassing encapsulants is tedious but necessary. Things like magnetic stirrers help.
No, Edison discovered that a current could flow in a vacuum - it was named the "Edison Effect". He didn't make use of it as a rectifying diode.
It was the best (only) one at that time.
But de Forest didn't realise it had gain, he thought it was just a more senstive detector; it was Robert von Lieben at the Berliner Physikalische Gesellschaft in 1911 who first demonstrated that it had gain, Shortly after that, several experimenters found they could get it to generate oscillations.
De Forest fought a legal case from 1913 to 1935 to get the inventions of amplification and oscillation attributed to himself and not to the people who had discovered them.
That can be perfectly ok. The next guy will know and use it. And they did.
From a business perspective that was brilliant.
If decidedly immoral. There's a difference between a brilliant businessman and a rapacious crook, which Donald Trump (amongst others) seems to be unaware of.
